Debra’s background in the food industry began as a work study program in high school where she left school at 10 AM and went to work at a local restaurant. She did all the usual front of the house duties and as a senior in high school was doing all the scheduling for the staff and managed the restaurant when the owners left town. As Debra left her home town to move to Seattle to go to college, she paid her way by working at the Space Needle restaurant which is a landmark in Seattle and one of the busiest restaurants in the world as a tourist attraction. She also worked in the catering department at the Seattle Yacht club and became well versed on the front of the house and back of the house in restaurant life and found that her real passion was in the kitchen, working with fresh local foods. While school ended after a few years with an AA degree at NSCC and then on to the University of Washington, she remained working in the restaurant business for 15 more years!
Debra began her Personal chef service – Chef to Go in 1997. By 2001, with a waiting list of clients – Debra moved her business to a commercial kitchen delivery service. The kitchen was built by her husband in their home as a separate commercial space. She was a member of the USPCA for 7 years and was a certified Instructor for that group. She was part of the team that created the coursework for that associations training. She joined PCN in 2003 and is thrilled to be part of this dynamic network! Debra received culinary certificates from Le Cordon Bleu Culinary academy and continues to stay current by taking classes in cooking and nutrition. Over the course of time, Debra’s business has evolved as a Health and Wellness service that caters to people interested in improving their health through nutrition. She completed her Nutritional Consultant certification in 2004. The meals she provides are whole foods based using healthy oils like expeller pressed canola, extra virgin olive oil and grape seed oil.
She has also incorporated a cleansing and detoxification program into her service and has online ordering of spa meals, restaurant portioned meals and South Beach meal delivery. She offers Mise en Place dinner parties as well as full service catering. She works with professional athletes on peak performance menus as well as busy people interested in a convenient and healthy dinner option. Debra’s goal is to support chefs across the country who are interested in a Health and Wellness chef service, offer their clients the tools they need to improve their health. As Personal chefs, we can actually make a difference in the quality of life for so many people and affect people for the better if we choose to. It’s a great feeling!
